The importance of Education in today's America

Back in class for the Spring semester and thinking about what we are teaching our young folks. When I was a kid the teaching always was about learning to learn and memorizing the facts as we knew them at that time. Today it is about learning to question all facts and what technology does to help you find the "truth". The problem I have is someone designed the technology and inputted what was the "truth". We don't know if they had an agenda or if they were even drunk when they did it. But if Google says it's so it's so. Today we are teaching that Jefferson was a racist slave owner, but not that he was a true renaissance man or that his purchase of land made the America we know today. We teach all about the frailties of our leaders and do not stress the strong points. Education has turned to the negative view point instead of being a positive attitude about most things. We stress English in all studies and make sure we can write well , but we don't stress Math and Science nor do we in a lot of schools even offer Art, Music or foreign Languages. My grandfather , the smartest man by far I ever met, told me that Art , Music and learning a language made your brain learn how to learn . He always told me never stop learning these things it will keep you mind growing . He was right , why are we so concerned about a machine learning and not our kids learning. Music and Art teach math, geometry, physics, natural science, etc. what a loss when we stop teaching those subjects. The best way to learn how to write properly in English is to learn a similar language , you have to learn to conjugate, etc.

Why is it important to look at what the "next generation" is learning ? Because they will be our caretakers later on and we want good care. Also, we have lost a great amount of prestige in the world because we have lowered the expectations of our students and therefore the power of the minds of all America to innovate, discover, decide and reason the issues of the days. Please take time and get involved in your schools , volunteer , be a mentor to a student or a teacher, vote in the district elections. Every part of government depends on how well our schools do , we cannot let them down.
